It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (8/28/17)

I recently discovered that each week, Kellee Moye of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts give the “It’s Monday! What are you Reading?” (#IMWAYR) meme a kitlit focus! It’s a weekly check-in of the books that you’ve read, and a look at the week ahead. I’m excited to be part of this for the first time!

Last Week’s Reads

I was away on holidays last week, but I managed to read Miles Morales by Jason Reynolds (5 BIG stars for this YA novel), as well as Zinnia and the Bees by Danielle Davis (4 stars) and Ban This Book by Alan Gratz (4 stars).

This Week’s Reads

My priority this week is Stella by Starlight by Sharon E. Draper, which is the middle grade selection for the brand new Diverse Books Club moderated by Madeline at Top Shelf Text. I’m so excited to join this group (you can join as well on the Goodreads group, or follow @diversebooksclub on Instagram with the hashtag #weneeddiversebooksclub. The YA selection is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (if you haven’t read this one yet, I highly suggest you do!), and the adult pick is The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.

I also found Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling (WHAT, the release date is Sept 5th, how does this happen?) on the shelf at my favorite local indie bookstore, so I picked it up to read as well.

Happy Reading!

Weekly Review: May 28th – June 3rd

June has arrived,

and it’s starting to feel like summer. This week, I’ve been busy trying to figure out a priority list for all the library holds and NetGalley approvals that came in at once. My top 10 TBR list for June is more like a top 20 this month, but here are a few of the titles that have made it on my list (I finished Carve the Mark yesterday, and really enjoyed it!)

I’m excited to tackle Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Summer Reading Guide. This week, I finished The Dry by Jane Harper (5/5 stars, this one was SO good) and Hourglass: Time, Memory, Marriage by Dani Shapiro (3/5 stars). And I also added to Anne’s beautiful sign with some of my scrapbook supplies to make a poster for my wall so I chart my progress (notice the little yellow dots in some of the top right hand corners of books).

I am also participating in two June photo challenges, #raisingreadersjune (you can followBecky and her and the challenge on Instagram at @beckys_bookshelf) and #AlltheBooksJune (co-hosted by Christy from and Lori from You can follow me on Instagram to see how I make out.

This week I plan to finish The Fall of Lisa Bellows, and also read Beartown for the MMD bookclub next week. We’ll see how the week goes and if I might be able to squeeze The Forbidden Temptation of Baseball, an upcoming release I got through NetGalley by which I’m really intrigued.

Happy Reading!
